In the spring of 2022, Abo Energy was awarded a contract in the innovation tender by the Federal Network Agency for a project that has now come to fruition. The facility is located in Euskirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia.
Since March, Abo Energy’s 10.5-megawatt solar park in Euskirchen-Wüschheim has been generating electricity. Now, the energy—expected to reach approximately 11.3 megawatt-hours per year—can also be stored as planned in a battery storage system provided by Tricera, which has a capacity of 3.5 megawatts and 7 megawatt-hours. The stored energy can later be released during periods of higher demand. With this, Abo Energy has successfully brought its seventh hybrid project in Germany fully online.
For this venture, Abo Energy received the innovation tender award from the Federal Network Agency in the spring of 2022. At that time, the company was still known as Abo Wind. The name change, which took effect in early July 2024, reflects the company’s expansion into four energy transition technologies: wind, photovoltaics, storage, and hydrogen.
“The collaboration with the government, authorities, and all partners was always constructive and marked by great mutual respect,” said Abo Project Manager Tobias-Pedro Dombole, referring to the Euskirchen hybrid power plant. The maintenance of the solar park’s greenery has already been handled for several weeks by a flock of sheep owned by shepherd Manfred Philipps.
